Actually I have mentioned this in one of my songs The Chinese Way. 1989 several positive things happened that finally eliminated the communist rule in Eastern Europe. But in China the development took the opposite direction when tanks were rolling in on Tiananmen Square in Beijing, crushing thousands of freedom fighters. It was in the same year…
The persecution in East Germany has made an impact on me. It was a country very close to my own and the people there have been living in that hard environment for so many years. So close to us, but still so different.
Here are some facts about the victims of the Berlin Wall (Western figures):
- Fugitives: 5,043 people
- Arrested in the border area: 3,221 people
- Killed: 80 people
- Injured by shooting: 118 people
